Plastic Waste Management Rules 2024. Section 3 of the principal rules are amended by substituting the definitions for phrases such as biodegradable plastics, importer, manufacturer and producer. The new amendments to the plastic waste management (amendment) rules, 2024, define biodegradable plastics as materials that not only degrade through biological processes in specific environments such as soil or landfills but also leave no microplastics behind.

The amendments aim to enhance plastic waste management practices in the country. Ministry of environment, forest and climate change has notified an amendment to the plastic waste management rules, 2016, titled the plastic waste management (amendment) rules, 2024.
